A 100% ELECTRIC CATAMARAN African Cats BV has just started to build the first sailing boat which operates without fossil fuels. By motoring at 50% capacity, at 7 knots, it should be possible to use the motor for three hours before the batteries will need recharging.
AN ELECTRIC CATAMARAN FROM OUTREMER Outremer is also working on the concept of a catamaran with electric motors. The first example has just been launched and is a prototype, based on the Outremer 42. The solution adopted by the builder is simple: a generator and one motor per hull! And it worksŠ
LEOPARD GOES GREEN We¹re not talking about the colour of the hulls, but ecology. The South African yard Robertson & Caine, which builds Leopard catamarans, has just presented a Leopard 43 equipped with electric motors, at the Miami Boat Show. A simple, robust system which has been tested at great length by Moorings, in the Virgin Islands.
